    ath0 'missing' in -16 kernel

Okay, my ath0 (wireless) network interface doesn't exist! It was there April 5th, but not now. I only have my eth0 interface 'available' and in use. My router is a Linksys Wireless-G. KNetworkManager is installed and managing the connection. In Gutsy, I have both interfaces and can switch between wired and wireless connection.

What gives? Where did my ath0 interface go? ifconfig does not report it as well.

    Suggestions? Thoughts?

Rightclicking on the KNetworkManager tray icon and selecting Options > Configure > Wireless Networks shows my wireless network information! Screen shots below. What is going on?

    Re: ath0 'missing'

Okay. Rebooted and elected the -15 kernel. My ath0 interface is back! KNetworkManager shows all the available wireless networks (including mine). Shows that I was connected via my wired connection. Allowed me to connect to my wireless network.

So, it appears that the problem lies in the -16 kernel. As far as I can tell, both kernels have the ath_* modules loaded. I've checked both booted kernels for:

    modinfo ath_pci

and both kernels report back that it is loaded.

Does this shed any light on why the -16 kernel isn't identifying my wireless interface, but the -15 kernel is?

'Big' upgrade today via Adept Notifier. 44 packages. Rebooted after upgrading them all. Clicked on KNetworkManager tray icon and there's my wireless connection information! I'm happy. Clicked on my wireless network and it connected just as it should. I'm elated!! All is well with the world.
