General problems with (my) KDE 4.1

I am experiencing some problems with my KDE4.1.
Two of strangest problems that I face are that I have only one available wallpaper when I clearly remember of having more wallpapers on my 4.0.5 KDE that were available from KDElook.
The same problem occurs at installing new plasmoids / widgets.

Does anyone know what could be a problem.
This could be somehow connected that I had a broken KDE 4.1beta, but I did removed it and reinstaled it completely.

    Any guesses what's the problem?

    Also:
The desktop effects aren't working and transparency is not supported.

This topic can be used by anyone that have a general problem with his or her KDE4
I forgot where I have to go to get transparency supported and why the effects aren't working.

Far be it from me to advise installing un-released software ....

I will say it like this: KDE 4.1 as integrated with Kubuntu 8.10 Alpha 6 is far more stable and functional than the mess that I had with 8.04 +KDE 3.5.x + KDE 4.0/4.1. It runs Compiz perfectly, with transparency and all effects. I just wish they'd make the Atlantis plugin available, like I have with sidux.

    End of comment.

How can I see which ethernet hardware I have. All that I know that is Nvidia and Knetworkmanager says it's
CK804 Ethernet Controller but maybe this is still the same as e1000e driver.
Also is it possibly install it only as a CD and not just upgrading

Also does anyone knows when can we expect System (places) widget?
You know in KDE 3.5.9 there is an icon on panel that has a computer and when clicked you get to choose between documents home and other...

Yeah, the e1000e module is real problem on the .27 kernel -- I have that problem at the moment myself. Interestingly my 2.6.27-4 kernel has it blacklisted and won't network, but my 2.6.27-2 kernel runs just fine and is happy to connect through my ethernet chip. Funny. But this is just a temporary situation, I'm sure.

          Code:
          lshw
will show your hardware in pretty fine detail. You can apt-get install it if you don't have it.

8.10 Alpha 6 has a CD ISO image available -- I don't have the link but if you search the repository locations you should be able to find it at a repo near you.

Well I ran lshw and as far as I know I don't have this module...

I downloaded and burned Alpha 6 live but, it didn't loaded the X or anything for that matter.
I got only a dark screen with blue lines in the middle.
K3B said that data differs to iso, but when I tested it for errors it had none.
I'll probably downloaded it again, or maybe I'll wait until the Intrepid.

My problem might be in nvidia, as this post explains: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3097690.0

lshw only shows hardware. To see your loaded modules, do
              Code:
              lsmod
