KDE 4 Desktop

I am new to KDE 4 and presently run both 3.5 and 4 with all updates applied.

I have a tendency to keep a lot of things on my desktop. In KD3 they are neatly organized and spaced but in KDE 4 they seem to be scattered widely and I can find no way to sort them as I can in KDE 3.5. I am sure the solution is staring me in the face but I can't find it. Could someone give me a bit of guidance. Is managing the desktop icons different in 4?

Hi there,

I started playing with KDE4 a few days ago.

It seems desktop and shortcuts work differently in KDE4.

it uses "Plasma"

Those links helped me greatly. Now I am really beginning to like KDE4. Very nice. It was just a bit of a shift in thinking for me being used to the more traditional desktop.

KDE4 uses the Folderview applet, which can be configured to display the items in your Desktop folder. You're right, it does take a shift in thinking from the traditional desktop, but it also promises a lot more possibility and functionality for the (hopefully not too distant) future.
