    [Solved] Accessing NTFS partitions

I've recently had to re-install (for a change ) and am now having trouble accessing the XP installation (on sda 1) and it's storage partition (on sdb 1), i'm told "Permission Denied".

I realise that this probably has a simple answer, but i'm unable to resolve it for whatever reason, any guidance will be highly appreciated.

    Re: Accessing NTFS partitions

In 8.04, I'd use the Disk & Filesystems:
    K > System Settings > Advanced > Disk & Filesystems
Administrator Mode (button at lower right)
    Highlight the sda1 partition
    Edit
    (or right-click Modify)
Then check all boxes that will help you!
    Mount point: /media/sda1
Check so "any user can do anything at any time" (drop-down list)
    Writeable

Exit back to Disk & Filesystems
    Enable (that partition)
    Exit and test it

Sometimes, even after doing this, I've had to access the partition (e.g., in Konqueror), and right-click > Mount. Or, even to have to re-enter Disk & Filesystems, Administrator Mode, highlight sda1, click Enable.

It works pretty well in 8.04.
    (I don't think Disk & Filesystems exists in 8.10)

    EDIT:
    btw, we are assuming that
    ntfs-3g
    is installed
(which, I believe, it should be by default)

      Solved: Accessing NTFS partitions

      Thank You for that, Qqmike,
I had to install ntfs-3g and ntfs-config (in Hardy 3.5.10).

I haven't tried the Intrepid installation yet.... to be honest - and to wander completely off-topic (for a change ) - i don't particularly like it.

      Once again, Thank You.

        Glad you got that.
(re: O-T, too, let's just say I'm taking real good care of my trusty 8.04 That's between you & I; prolly best that we keep that quiet)
