    Laptop locked up... Help

I am running a Dell Inspiron laptop with Kubuntu 8.04.KDE 3.5
I was having trouble running a projector so was advised to go into monitor settings and add another monitor.
    I was instructed to reboot.
After doing this, my system does not make it to login.
I get the following screen with a blinking cursor.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Wally

    Here's the screen shot

this may be a dumb question...but is it possible that since you added the 2nd monitor, that at some point during boot up, the projector becomes the primary monitor? do you have the projector on during boot up? might be worth a try...

      Thanks for the reply.
I unplugged the projector but it made no difference.
      Thanks

O.K., but if the projector is plugged into laptop and powered on before the laptop is booted the laptop still hangs?
