Why is apt speaking french?

I'm running Hardy 8.04.1. And for some reason, all my apt commands are speaking french to me. It's true that I live in France, but my system is entirely in english.

Why is this happening?

Have you got a French keyboard? Have you checked your localisation? I'm sorry I have moved on to 8.10. so I cannot look at 8.04. Somewhere in your System Settings should be Region/Language. Make sure France does not appear there.
