How do I get back the loudspeaker icon in KDE 3? (SOLVED)

I just installed Kubuntu 8.04.1 a few days ago and there was a nice little loudspeaker icon on the task bar. It allowed me to adjust the volume or to click on a button which brought up the mixer.

Now it's gone, I know not why. Maybe something to do with restoring my ~home from a backup copy. Corollary question: Are there some caveats for such a procedure?

All I can manage now is to put the KMix on the task bar, which is a horror, taking up 1/4 of the bar all by itself.

How do I get back that nice, simple little loudspeaker?

    Thanks in advance.

Have you looked in Settings > Configure KMix whether the tray icon is enabled?

I had to fire up Kmix in order to get to settings, but then I could click on Enable system tray volume control and my loudspeaker is now back.

It was a bit strange tho, as whatever I clicked made the loudspeaker appear and then disappear, or vice versa.

Anyway, it's ok now. Thanks a lot!
