Adept (Package Management) Documentation

I'm just getting started on Kubuntu and have no experience with Adept. Even though Adept has a menu item for help with a sub-entry for Adept documentation it seems that there is no documentation to be found anywhere on the installed system. Insofar as package management is both basic and important when it comes to sustaining the integrity of one's system this is very troubling. Package management in inherently complicated and it looks like the good news is that Adept attempts to deal with the inherent complexity. I sure hope there is a way of learning how it works other than fumbling around and screwing up my system.

I'd be most grateful to anyone who could refer me to a source for something like a user's guide.

What you need to understand is that Adept Manager, like Synaptic, are merely front-end GUIs for the underlying dpkg system. Likewise, apt-get is a CLI front-end for dpkg. So if you want to become a master of package management, perhaps

man dpkg

is what you want to review.

Currently there is no adept guide but one has been in works for Debian for a long time...

Good progress on documentation. Waiting for Port to KDE 4 in Intrepid time frame

Becoming an expert will take awhile especially considering the absence of documentation. Insofar as I have been dabbling with Debian for some years now I do have some awareness of the underlying package management functions, which has something to do with recognition of the inherent complexity.

However, thanks for setting me straight. I'll stay on the lookout for forthcoming documentation.
