    Adept Missing Some Programs?

    Probably a newbie question since I'm a recent Gentoo defector but I can't seem to find anyone having this problem. When I run Adept and enter a program in the search box for Adept I find no match for programs that appear in Synaptic. kweather is an example, but there are countless others. Don't both programs build their list using source.list?

    I am running kubuntu with kde 4.1 if that makes a difference. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    make sure you have the repositories checked in Adept.
    open Adept then click on Adept in the top left, then Manage Repositories.
    there should be an 'X' in the boxes for the repositories that you have active. (you can uncheck the 'CD' one)
    you can also add Third Party repo's while you are in there if you want to. (ie: medibuntu)

      I don't think that is the problem. I do have the following checked:

      On the Kubuntu software tab:
      * conanical-supported
      * community-maintained
      * proprietary drivers
      * software restricted

      On the third party software tab:
      everything is checked except sources for CD and Source

      I tried to deleted a source and re-add in an attempt to force it to refresh. That didn't appear to help. In fact it complained about another program having a lock - which I verified was not the case. Adept seems kind of buggy. I tried Synaptics before and it installs programs fine but then locks up at the end of every install. That I at least see is impacting other KDE 4.1 users. The only reliable way seems to be the good old command line apt-get.

        Not sure which Adept version is in hardy's KDE4 packages (assuming it is KDE3's) but if you have KDE4's version, that one does have some problems with searching in its current state

          Are you running Hardy or Intrepid?
          Adept changed in Intrepid and some of the searches will not work.

          If you have the older Adept, try opening a Konsole and type sudo dpkg --configure -a
          to see if that helps.
          Also, do you have the Medibuntu repositories or no?

          If not, to add in Konsole type:
          sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

          wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update
