editing source.list

I added a source improperly in the repository section of Adept. Now it won't open. I know the line that is not recognized and edited it and saved to a new location.

How do I get permission to copy the new file to etc/apt? I've tried the usual commands to fix Adept but they come back saying that line is not recognized.
