Grub and boot, need advice before it happens!

I've got Hardy Grub booting Suse 11, Vista and XP. Now I figure the next time Suse gets a new kernel it's grub will write it's own loader over Kubuntus. I need to know how to get back to booting Kubuntu and using it's grub config. Thanx for any help. I promise to print out any info I get so I'll never have to ask again ;o)

    1. Save a copy of /boot/grub/menu.lst before you update the SUSE kernel.

    2. It may be too late, but if you can (or could have) point the SUSE grub installer to its own root partition, rather than to the MBR of the hard drive, then you would not have this problem. With that done, you can either manually edit your Kubuntu /boot/grub/menu.lst file to add the correct SUSE kernel boot information each time it is updated, or else you can set up "chainloading" to automatically go to the current SUSE boot information.

I take it you have the hardy grub on the mbr. In that case a suse update /grade will not affect your grub (mbr) only the grub on your suse partition.

So depending on your hardy /boot/grub/menu.list (as dibl stated) you may have to manually edit that.

      I hope that helps
