OK. I've looked all over this machine and can't find where X sets it's auto configuration settings. I also can't get the old reliable "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" to work because now it omits a lot of steps. I've even tried creating the xorg.conf manually with what I know and it doesn't take it. Still boots and goes to whatever config file it is using. I really would like to set my resolution to what it should be. Anyone!! Please?

Re: Still another X question
The fix X actually works pretty well! I got fed up trying to manually fix my girlfriends mom's laptop and it did the trick in just a few seconds!Compaq Presario c727us, 120GB HDD, 2GB DDR2, 1.6GHz, fully working sound, wifi, proprietary buttons, and on board mouse with Kubuntu 8.04 and KDE 4.1

Re: Still another X question
Yep...gone that route, but it still doesn't do like the old way where you can pick the driver and the video modes. I really don't mind the auto config. I really think they needed that, but they also need a mechanism in place to set it to what you want and it stays, not go back to the auto config settings. Every time I log in I have to set it back to 1440x900. I just wish it would stay that way because at the setting it uses, the panel is adjusted to fit, so when I change, I also have to readjust the panel. Stuff I've read states that it has something to do with the monitor and how it reports (or fails to report) its capabilities. I've got a great Monitor, so no need to change due to that. They just need to fix it so that a manual xorg.conf file will work.
