8.04 live dvd hanging during boot

I decided to try and setup dual-booting on my gaming rig. I had poor luck back when Fedora Core 4 was new, but that was several years ago, so I hoped that maybe the driver issue involving my sata card had been fixed.

    I don't even know though...

The last line the live dvd prints during boot is:
    [ 266.127548] saa7130/34: v412 driver version 0.2.14 loaded

Googling around, I've figured out that this is my tv tuner card. removing hardware from my pc just to get it to boot to linux isn't really something I want to do. Anyone know how to make it go?

I have trouble believing that it is "hanging" on a TV card. Here are two much more likely causes of your situation:

    1. The DVD may be defective. You need to burn these things slow, at 4X speed, and using "DAO" mode if you have it. And don't waste time with re-writable media. Try a Live CD.

    2. It's not really hung at all -- how long did you wait for it to continue?

      1) I've heard the defective argument before... I'll go ahead and burn another copy to be sure.

      2) From the time the optical drive stopped spinning and the HD LED shut off, I waiting fifteen minutes. An arbitrary number to be sure, but a sufficiently large one I think.
