    Edges of screen cut off...

    I just recently installed Kubuntu after running it off the CD a few times and generally liking it. My Linux expertise is zero, but my general computer knowledge is pretty decent so bear with me.

    For various reasons, the "monitor" to which the Kubuntu machine is attached is a Samsung 61" 1080p DLP TV. The problem is that the desktop extends slightly past the edges of the screen, so I regularly lose important buttons and things at the edges of the screen. When the computer was running XP, the TV gave me an option to "shrink" the image slightly so it fit perfectly, but it doesn't give me the same option under Kubuntu.

    I know this is a longshot, but does anyone either a) know how I can get that option back under Kubuntu or b) finagle the image on the computer side so that it is the right size for the display?

    I have an ATI x850 in there, and I'm using ATI's Linux drivers, but I didn't see an ATI control panel or anything like that.

    Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

    The problem you described is called overscan try searching through your TV's menu for this I'm sure you can adjust it some where.

    I know NVidia has adjustments in the NVidia settings manager for this. Unfortunately I can't find anything about a settings manager for ATI cards.

    Hope that's any help to you.

      You could try this:

      System Settings -> Monitor - Administrator Modus.

      Choose "Hardware" -> Configure monitor.

      At the top of the list you will find Generic. Try LCD Panel 1024x768 or whatever is closest for your monitor.

      Another option is to run the full

      Code:
      sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
      routine, and make a custom monitor. You will need to know the horisontal and vertical refresh rates for your monitor.
