Why is Power Manager starting up on a desktop system?

Earlier today, I upgraded my system's BIOS. I use a fairly ancient motherboard, Abit NF7-S 2.0, whose last BIOS revision was released in 2005 (like I said, really frickin' old!).

This immediately did Bad Things to my system. Kubuntu was no longer able to boot. I still can't get my Windows XP install to boot. I was formerly using GRUB to multi-boot, but I assume the new BIOS changed the drive mappings such that my old menu.lst no longer applies.

Some cursing and a lot of reboots and flushings of the CMOS later, I have Kubuntu straightened out. However, now I have Power Manager (the little lightning bolt icon) appearing in the menu bar after startup, next to Amarok, Knotes, et al. Why would that happen? Obviously, this being a desktop system, I have no battery to monitor. I would like to disable Power Manager, but I don't know how.

I'm not at my Kubuntu system at the moment, but I believe it's KMenu>System Settings>Services, and you need to find the power manager daemon and set it NOT to run at startup.

BTW, kpowermanager does other things than just monitor battery charge status. You can set the "policy" for CPU scaling, and use "Suspend to RAM" or "Suspend to Disk", among other things that are applicable to desktops as well as laptops/notebooks.
