KDE 4 session freezes after upgrade to 4.1

KDE 4 worked properly until I updated to 4.1. I had error messages on the install. After running in a recovery mode and repairing all broken packages, I am still unable to boot into KDE4 or KDE4.1 properly. KDE 4.1 boots up and then gives an error message about the plasma package and then the system freezes and I have to reboot. Using the Synaptic Package Manager, I reinstalled the plasma package but still get the same result when trying to start a KDE4 session. I then reinstalled KDE4.1 with the same problem as before. KDE 3.5 seems to work fine. Attached doc provides a little additional info.

    Thanks for any help,
    Jim

    From within kde3.5 try renaming ~.kde4 to .kde4old (~=/home/username)

Re-login and a new .kde4 will be set up.

.kde is a hidden file so you will have to activate "view hidden files" in Konqueror / dolphin).

    For some reason kde4.1 doesn't always like kde4.0 .kde4's.

      Fintan,

Thank you, after following your suggestion, KDE4.1 appears to be working fine.
