Hey yall, recently switched from the standard GNOME setup to Kubuntu. Love the K environment much better. Have one question, I downloaded/upgraded to the KDE 4.1 packages, but now I have both the 3.5 and 4.1 installed. What do I put in at the terminal to make it just 4.1 installed? Thanks in advance

Re: Just switched from Ubuntu to the K desktop
Welcome to the party
you could do:
Code:sudo apt-get remove kubuntu-desktop
- kde4.1 is still very much bleeding edge and there are still a few issues (like full kdesudo functionality that will be lost if you remove kde3).
- kde3.5.9 is stable and always a good fallback if you need it.
If you want kde4.1 as default just choose it when logging in and then it will stay default untill you choose otherwise.
Why not just use kmenueditor (richtclick on the big K) to make a kde3 folder and move all your kde3 apps there?
That way you can have the double apps separated but still at your disposal should you need them.
I hope this helpsHP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)

Re: Just switched from Ubuntu to the K desktop
I would definitely nod against removing 3.5 if that's what you're looking for. You'll never know if it's going to break(removing all of the packages). Besides, depending on what you require to do - there are still a few 3.5 apps on the 4.1 install. KNetworkManager is one. Adept is another.
If you're rock set on using KDE4, just download the KDE4 remix of HH. Install it, and upgrade to the latest 4.1.. and you'll have the bare minimum 3.5 packages that you'll need.

Re: Just switched from Ubuntu to the K desktop
Thanks yall, I went with creating a new folder in my K Menu. I just moved all the programs that had both 3.5 and 4.1 versions. The 3.5s are in their own place now. I do agree, removing essentials would be bad. Thanks again for the suggestions
