In trying to get another item fixed, I was given instructions to take the following string and stick in my /etc/apt/sources.list file:
deb http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/rep...Ubuntu_8.04/./
It has been a few days and many dicussions ago, so I do not remember the purpose for putting in that file. But, I do remember that the reason for putting it in there was a good one, as long as it worked for me. But it is not working for me. I am starting to get errors popping up here and there throughout attempts to work normally with this operating system. (Kubuntu 8.04). The last one that popped up was trying to use the adept installer to kind of fish around for anything interesting I might notice, or just to see the adept installer run. You know, killing time kind of stuff while answers in other forums come in. But when I did, the error read as follows:
The APT Database could not be opened! This may be caused by incorrect APT configuration or some similar problem. Try running apt-setup (I did that and it wouldn't run) and apt-get update in terminal (I did that and got an error, I will detail it shortly) and see if it helps to resolve the problem.
For apt-setup, I got:
bash: apt-setup: command not found
So I did it with out, still no-go.
For apt-get update:
E: Malformed line 7 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist)
And that was the error that occured after following instructions from the OS. Line 7 happens to be the line that I stuck into sources.list, and that I wrote up toward the beginning of this novel.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
