Just to add it wont boot on the failsafe option either - gets as far as testing for the Hlt flag ??(my rams shot) which seems to work too well!
Did you guys check to see if the kernel and initrd files are in place?
They should be in
/boot
and are:
vmlinuz-2.6.24.20-generic and same for initrd.img-2.6.24.20-generic.
And you should have the back up files, denoted by the extension .bak.

All are there. One thing I did notice is that System.map-2.6.24-20-generic is 883.9 kb and .19 is 884.0. All other .19 entries and .20 entries have identical sizes except the System.Map. Corrupt file?
Checked for updates in Adept today and found an update to the .20 image.
Installed it and can now boot the .20 Image just fine.
Not sure what the problem was but seems to be fixed on my machine at least.
