I have just received a new desktop PC:
ASUS M3N-HT/Deluxe Motherboard
BIOS Level: ACPI BIOS Revision 0901
AMD Phenom 9850 Processor
8GB (1066Hz) Memory
2x 1TeraByte Serial-ATA Hard drives
I have installed Windows/XP (+SP2) and things seem to be running fine, however, my main goal is to run (Kubuntu-x64) ) Linux.
I have tried...
Kubuntu-x64 Live CD
Ubuntu-i386 Live CD
... just to boot a running system without changing any hard drives.
1) ctrl-alt-delete
2) hardware system starts booting from the CD
I se;lect option #1 to boot-up a live system "without changing
the hard drive"
I DID NOT select any particular boot options (PF6)
3) "Splash" logo appears
aka blue Kubuntu logo /w blue bar moving from side to side
4) the splash screen remains for about 2 minutes
the system has the appearance that it is "hung"
the light on the (external) CD/DVD drive is off (not flashing)
5) then the screen clears, with a blinking cursor in the top left corner
of the screen. This remains for about a minute
6) the light on the (external) CD/DVD drive, (containing the Live CD),
starts to flash
7) then Linux system boot-up messages start appearing on the
screen
8) finally, the linux Ubuntu/Kubuntu is up and running
I tried basically repeating the above procedure... but requesting for an install. I received similar results to that mentioned above..... then, once the Linux system was up, the Install program started automatically.... things appear to go well until the Disk Partition section. The Install program
saw no available disks/partitions.
Basically, it does not look like my serial-ATA drives are recognized by
the system (Kubuntu-x64).
Is there anyone who can provide any assistance
The attached file (/var/log/messages) was created when I booted the Kubuntu Live CD system "without changing the hard drive".
Thanks
