Hardy: external keyboard on laptop not recognised

    Hi all,

I've just installed Hardy Heron (8.04.1) on a HP Compaq NC 8000 laptop. I have some previous experience with Fedora on a desktop. The Hardy installation on the laptop, from 1 disk, went incredibly smoothly, without one single issue. Amazing.
However, getting further, I want to use an external keyboard, but I can't get the machine to recognise it. Looking around on the web and on this forum, I gather I should modify the xorg.conf in a particular way, to get the system to connect to the added keyboard at startup. Could someone tell me if this is correct, and if so, what the xorg.conf should look like?

With many thanks for all help,

    Jan

SOLVED: it is a hardware problem. Works fine with usb-keyboard.
Does not work with ps/2 keyboard + adapter plug (HP Compaq NC 8000 has no ps/2 port).
