    Rar

Hi guys, I am back. I have been searching the web for the rar utility, which I believe it is really neat. I just want to find a how to that would show me how to use rar and divide a big file in small portions. Most of the help that I have found is how to unrar a file and not how to rar the file. Any further help would be appreciated.

Howto: Create Split .Rar Files in Ubuntu Linux for archiving, filesharing, and backup purposes.

Found using Google with 'howto use rar to create split archives' (no quotes used). Link is/was first listed. (Google searching is an art)
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

I used to like the RAR archiver but you should know that package has written

This program is shareware and you must register it after 40 days of use.

So, I give it up. My advice is to consider using TAR + BZIP2
You may also handle volumes in TAR, please check options '-L' and '-M' --> if it's not clear, just use 'split' on the TAR big archive before you BZIP2'em

      Good luck

Dude, I thank you for that response. I was trying to use it and the same info came up. I guess I was getting fed up. But I will check those options that you mentioned.

        Peace, dude.

          Re: Rar

          I'm glad I could help.
And hope your experience is not frustrating.
Anyway I volunteer myself for some testing, either for TAR in multi volumes + BZIP2 or TAR single volume + SPLIT + BZIP2.
Whatever you think is worth of it, just let me know your plans and results for now.

          See ya
