    kde 4.1 beta

When I try to install kde 4.1 beta as per the announcement on the kubuntu home page, I get an error that the kubuntu-kde4-desktop package will break something (don't know what) and it won't install.

    Any ideas?
    Paul

    Here is the output:

    [pkaplan@TP-T ~]$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-kde4-desktop
    Reading package lists... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
    that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Re: kde 4.1 beta install problem

I'm not sure whether this is the root cause of this problem, but I discovered that when I attempt to install the kdebase-workspace-bin package, which also won't install, there is a conflict in the package libplasma1, which itself is NOT installed on my machine. libplasma1 is listed as version 4.0.3.

Is this a package error or have other people been able to install the 4.1beta packages?

Do I need to install kde 4.0.3 first and then upgrade to install 4.1beta?

      Re: kde 4.1 beta

I had a fully updated KDE4.0.4/3 (package name issue) and the install went flawlessly for me. So maybe you do have to update first.

Don't know if this link will help, but there are quite a few of us "testing" 4.1RC here. Just comments mostly about how it's working. Worth a look though.

EDIT: When I installed, I had a few "Brokens". Mostly due to "libplasma2" not wanting to install. I had to do a few "sudo dpkg --configure -a" and "sudo apt-get -f" in konsole. Then I went to AdpetManager and Installed just that one thing and then did a few more of the first two and then had to finish up with AdeptNotifier's Install process.

I got frustrated over being in dependency hell. I decided to reinstall Hardy and had no problem installing 4.1 betas after that.

            Hi,

I'm getting an error while installing kde4.1 packages. There seem to be an issue with audiocd.desktop which exists in two packages.
Is there anyway this can be forced?
Log below (while doing apt-get -f install)

            Code:
(Reading database ... 176881 files and directories currently installed.)

trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/kde4/share/kde4/apps/konqsidebartng/virtual_folders/services/audiocd.desktop', which is also in package konqueror-kde4
            Errors were encountered while processing:

              Re: kde 4.1 beta

Does anyone have any idea why all KDE3 apps with the exception of Adept Manager would stop working after installing KDE4.1 Beta? This one's really got me puzzled!

              Cheers
              Nick

                  WARNINGS

                  Alpha, beta, rc
This is an alpha/beta/rc (pre-) release. Pre-release versions of programs are NOT encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or for anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent, breakage. Pre-release versions of programs ARE recommended for developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs (or are curious).

There seem to be an issue with audiocd.desktop which exists in two packages.
Is there anyway this can be forced?
                  Yes, but first more warnings:

                  man dpkg
Warning: These options are mostly intended to be used by experts only. Using them without fully understanding their effects may break your whole system.
So before you use force: man dpkg or/and man:dpkg (konqueror)

                  Example:

With the Intrepid Ibex, KDE 4.1 Beta 1:

Trying to install kdeaccessibility - accessibility packages from the official KDE release.
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/kdeaccessibility_4%3a4.0.80-1ubuntu1_i386.deb: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/icons/mono/index.theme', which is also in package kde-icons-mono
                  Using force:
                  Code:
                  sudo dpkg -i --force-all /var/cache/apt/archives/kdeaccessibility_4%3a4.0.80-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
                  man dpkg
                  --force-things | --no-force-things | --refuse-things
Force or refuse (no-force and refuse mean the same thing) to do some things. things is a comma separated list of things specified below. --force-help displays a message describing them. Things marked with (*) are forced by default.
Warning: These options are mostly intended to be used by experts only. Using them without fully understanding their effects may break your whole system.

all: Turns on (or off) all force options.

OK, not really... still has that plasma bug where widgets randomly vanish when I fire up a wine app... dang it.
