Does 3.5.9 dissapear if I upgrade to 4.0

I'm considering upgrading to KDE4 by using the method described here:

    http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-4.0.4.php

and I'm wondering if once I do that will I be able to switch between 4.0 and my original 3.5 desktop. Is this possible or will 3.5 be gone?

Both can live happily together, so you will not loose 3.5.9.

However, you may get duplicate menu entries as some apps will be available for kde3 and kde4, this can be a bit annoying.

      No, 3.5.9 is still there.

However, a lot of "switching" is not recommended -- there have been multiple posts along the line of "I tried to go back to KDE3.5, and now it's all screwed up".

There are some K packages that have not migrated to KDE4 yet, Adept Manager, for example. So that will run under KDE4, just like it does on KDE3.5.9. No problem. You won't lose anything using KDE4.*

*well, maybe some "system settings" functions that didn't work very well anyway ......

Thanks! Maybe I'll give it a try.

Ok, so I did the upgrade from Adept Manager to install KDE4, but I don't see anything different when I rebooted. How do I enable the new KDE4?

I figured it out. It seems that I forgot to install "kubuntu-kde4-desktop".
