    Installing over existing kubuntu partition

Hello. This is more a "confirmation request" than a question. I have a dual boot with 2 hard disks:
30gb IDE (currently with KUBUNTU 6.06)
80GB SATA (currently with WIN XP)

Now, I want to upgrade from 6.06 to 8.04. I suppose I have to re-install it. I'm booting with the kubuntu cd, and at partition screen, it gives me 3 options: 1. partitionate the existing kubuntu disk (half for 6.06 and half for the 8.04); 2. partitionate the entire disk (it will let me choose which disk to use); and 3. the manual partitioning.
I just want to be sure, should I use the second option and let it partitionate the 30gb disk or should I use the 3rd option? Although I already did this a long time ago when I installed 6.06, I just want to be sure with this new version, that I won't have problems with the grub menu, or with my winxp partition.
    Thanks in advance.

First off, save all the personal data you wish to save (copy it to flash drive and/or DVD/CD, whatever).

Second, definitely install your new Kubuntu * fresh *: download and burn a fresh live Kubuntu 8.04 install CD. You'll probably have fewer problems that way (versus upgrading in-place using Adept).

    Third,
please consider using GParted Live CD to do any and all of your partitioning before even thinking about running the Kubuntu installer CD.

Fourth, get your Live Kubuntu CD, check it for Md5sum, run it live and select Check this CD for Defects, then run it live for an hour or so to test it; use Konqueror as a browser and/or use Adept (in the live session) to get Firefox (K > Add/Remove Programs > Internet > Firefox).

Fifth, run the Live Kubuntu CD installer, Step 4: select Manual partitioning.
Select each of your new partitions (root /, home, swap), let the installer reformat them if so indicated. You will have to indicate their use in Step 4 (/, home, swap). Use ext3 as a format--do this in GParted but also let the installer do it again.

      GParted: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
(get the -10 version of the Live CD, not the -11 version)
