Has anybody have this happen? I get the X gray screen as my background. Oddly enough, and fortunate, the Login Splash at least shows up. Once clicking to log in and that Login Splash disappears, you can see part of the background. What gives? How could updating to 4.0.4 break that? Anyone know how to fix?

Re: Lost Back Ground on Login Splash after update to 4.0.4
Well, some of the updates did include the Intel Driver portion. Intel and the i815/915 (can't remember which number) to be exact. The xorg.conf file is as always with KDE4. I do a reconfig on that and see.
I can get to KCONTROL, but it doesn't control any aspect of KDE4.

Re: Lost Back Ground on Login Splash after update to 4.0.4
I don't have a scrambled mess at least, but the gray background isn't very inviting. I've gone through all the settings I know of that control that (config files only as the Control Center stuff doesn't yet work) and they are all the way they are supposed to so. Even the reconfigure of X didn't work. Which I didn't think it would as that doesn't behave as it use to. hmmm.....

Re: Lost Back Ground on Login Splash after update to 4.0.4
I've seen the same problem as of today...but I haven't rebooted in a long time so today is just the first day I've seen it. Happens just as described. Default X grey hash background on both monitors, when the login box goes away the background shows through the "hole". No KDE startup progress indicator either.
I am using a matrox G550 in dual head mode. I am using kdm4 as the login manager, but running a kde 3 session.

This sounds like you are having the same problem that I got (see http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3094443.0)
I guess it's some kind of version conflict between 4.0.4 and update packages from 4.0.3.
Can you check your KDE version?

Yep. Mine reports as 4.0.3 although everything was updated to 4.0.4. I wish I knew what the solution was? That gray is getting on my nerves. Anyone out there know why 4.0.4 doesn't seem to be installed even though Adept Manager says it is? Anyone?

Re: Lost Back Ground on Login Splash after update to 4.0.4
I updated the system, background was not lost nor the icons confused.
But I also have problem that when I click on about KDE it says 4.0.3 and not 4.0.4.
I installed from Konsole to avoid all the problems that were reported...
Now I will add some new updates and I'll see if every thing still works all right.I'm magnet for errors, problems and bugs...

I guessing this could be repaired with kdm as default manager instead kdm4 that I use right now.
Anyone knows how to do that??I'm magnet for errors, problems and bugs...
