I'm curious if Kubuntu produces the standard etc/inittab file or not; either running live CD or upon hard disk install. I'm using liveCD right now and can't find it. Or maybe Kubuntu has a different name for it.

Re: System V - etc/initab file
No inittab here. Kubuntu (and the other ubuntu variants) use initng, not SysV init. So everything's a bit different.I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.

Re: System V - etc/initab file
Actually, Ubuntu uses upstart, not initng, unless that changed for Hardy (though I highly doubt it, since upstart is Ubuntu's child).
