problem on login

Hello everybody.

I am in a big trouble.
I have installed a kubuntu 8.04 on my machine and after a week I got a problem. It sounds like this: When I start my computer after I enter my user and password, it seems that it accepts it but then the login is shown over and over again. I have tried to use the login console and it seems that it accepts my user and password. Does anybody knows what is happening cause I am completely confused and I do not want to loose all my settings and my work

By the way, is there any possibility to launch the graphical interface from the login console?

Also could you provide the specs for your machine? (MB, CPU, video card, etc)

Try to re configure your xserver.

I have reconfigured the xserver but the problem persists.
