toshiba laptop & 8.04 wubi install

I installed HH on my daughters toshiba laptop and it installed fine except for 2 problems that are addressed separately in other posts. (1) the fonts on the boot screen are huge, to large to read the letters in the sign in box and enter your password. (2) I have been unable to connect to my belkin wireless router. Under my hardware drivers it says that I have Atheros Hardware Access Layer (HAL) in use, further it says Support for Atheros 802.11 Wireless LAN Cards in use. My daughter is also hooked up to a belkin router so I think she will have the same issues when she gets back to her home.

Some posts that I read seemed to say the problem is in the Atheros card, but I couldn't find an answer to my specific problems. It is probably there and I am just to dense to see it but I need help setting up the laptop. I am seeing my daughter this weekend and would like to resolve the issue. She would like to try Kubuntu but this will be her first time using Linux. I have kubuntu on my desktop and haven't had any issues and was stumped when these came up.

The install went fine and the wubi and windows with linux seems to work, I think that when these issues are resolved then we will have a new convert to kubuntu. Please help!

Anyone had either of these problems, if you have a fix for even one of the problems please submit it, it would be a start. even if your like problem isn't exactly the same as mine, maybe it would give me a starting point. any help would greatly be appreciated.

I can see there is no help here with this problem, so will keep trying elsewhere to see if I can find the answer. Thanks to those that bothered to read my post, hope you find the answers you are seeking for your search. I will probably go to Ubuntu forums, I always found the answers there, and the members were willing to work through the issue until resolved. I am not discouraged though, a little set back will force me to increase my knowledge, to my benefit, as a result. Later.
