Flawless Hardy Install

Have been using Gutsy Gibbon Ubuntu for maybe 5 months or so, and tried an upgrade to Hardy a few days ago.

Upgrade mostly worked, but broke my Video (Nvidia 8600 GT) and my sound (C-Media 8738 PCI).

Got video working again, but wasn't able to fix the sound.

So - I thought I'd give Kubuntu a try for fun.

Did a clean install of Kubuntu Hardy, and everything is flawless right out of the box.

Everything works right, first time, and Kubuntu is a pleasure to use!

Welcome to Kubuntu. You can now go ahead and install gnome and have the 2 best desktops available.

I prefer the simplicity of only having one desktop installed.

If I want gnome, I'll go back to Ubuntu.

Actually....despite Kubuntu working flawlessly, which is superb, I've decided I prefer Gnome, so I've gone back to Ubuntu 8.04.

Did a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy, and it works perfectly. Interesting that the upgrade install from Gutsy was problematic but the fresh install perfect.
