upgrade from Ubuntu Gutsy to Hardy

That isnt a typo. Im running Ubuntu Gutsy and want to switch to Kubuntu. Is it possible to make the switch from within Ubuntu (im out of blank cds)? If so what do i do?

You'll have to do it in two steps (which probably can be done in any order):

    * Upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy
    * Install the meta package Kubuntu-Desktop (you better doublecheck the name, I can't check at the moment)

This will leave the Gnome desktop and allow you to switch between them. I've tried to remove Gnome, but it didn't went cleanly and I had to add the kubuntu packagaes again, and even so, I ended up doing a clean install to get it working properly.

The easiest way, however, is probably to just get off your butt and get a blank CD.

      Hello

I am new too but I am pretty sure you can do this

      while in gnome type this
      sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop

      after this completes type this
      sudo aptitude remove gnome-desktop

I have read over and over aptitude is a cleaner route then apt-get when removing dependencies

      Hope this helps
