I am having the same problem. I ran md5sum against the image I downloaded and it showed the following:

    8aebb0dc17588d22dd3bb59d7df71061

That matches what was at the kubuntu dowload page.

I can't get the Live CD to work or the install to complete.

Tenius I did that, and no one answered my question.

        Re: live cds wont boot

I am also having problems installing Kubuntu (and Ubuntu) Hardy Heron on my ASUS (K8V-X) - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+ desktop computer.

I still have my Gutsy Gibbon Kubuntu Live CD, and with it I can...
-- boot from the CD and perform a CD media test
-- boot up a "live" Kubuntu system (without affecting the S/W on the hard drive)

... and in fact I am current typing this append from the K8V-X / AMD based PC running Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon.

When I try to boot up, on this (AMD-based) PC, and select for example...
        1) check CD media ... I see the light initially flashing on the CD drive... and soon afterwards I get messages on the screen indicating that I have corrupted files on the CD.
        2) I try to boot up a "live" copy of the new Hardy Heron Kubuntu system, (without affecting the S/W on my harddrive)... I see the light flashing on my CD drive... I see the blue Kubuntu text/logo on the screen with the blue activity bar moving from side to side.... then I see after a few seconds the activity light on the CD drive stops completely... yet the Kubuntu text/logo and the moving blue bar continues (indefinitely).

The FIRST time this happenned, my obvious though was that I had a bad copy on the new Hardy Heron Kubuntu system... so I just downloaded a new "fresh" copy, (actually from a different shadow server)... and tried to re-install the new Kubuntu on the AMD PC again.

I have done this loop about four of five times now. I have checked the MD5SUM values... I have used up different CDs.... but I always get the same result. Hardy Heron does not want to work on my AMD PC.

Now I do have two other PCs. One other Intel-based PC desktop, and an Intel based (company) laptop.

On my Intel desktop PC, I successfully install Hardy Heron Ubuntu 8.04 (GNOME). I have also successfully booted-up a "live" copy of the same Ubuntu 8.04 (GNOME) system on my laptop with the same installation CD.

However, this same Ubuntu 8.04 (GNOME) install CD WILL NOT load on my AMD PC... just like Kubuntu 8.04.

Using the "Kubuntu Device Database" utility, I have sent in my AMD PC hardware description. The submission ID is: 69291aec9a61e9474b386d94f52e29ae

If you need more information, let me know.

FYI... I ended up finding a resolution (or bypass) to my problem.

After booting from the CD, and seeing the main menu...

          1) Press F6
          2) select "acpi=off"
          3) Press ESC
          4) Then select "Install Kubuntu..." or "Try Kubuntu..."

It all seems to work fine after that.

Tried that. Didn't work for me. The only way I can 8.04 to run (live cd or install) is with only 2 GB of ram installed. ALL other distro's work fine with 4GB (7.04, 7.10 and Windoze XP - which is the real shocker!) I have tried any and all possible settings. But I am not a expert Linux user either so I may be missing something.
