I've got an Acer Aspire 5050, with a 2.20 gigahertz AMD Turion 64, 4GB of RAM, and a ATI Radeon Xpress 1100. When I try to boot from the final 8.04 KDE 3 LiveCD, it hangs and doesn't boot. If it's on verbose splash screen, the last message I see is 'Installing essential drivers'. If I modify the CD boot command so it's verbose with no splash, I see a series of two dozen or so messages repeated, apparently forever, as I left it go for about 10 minutes. The messages mostly have to do with ACPI. I don't know how to dump to a log when booting off the CD, so I've got no way to reproduce the messages exactly. The 7.10 livecd boots fine, but I'd rather not install 7.10 and then have to upgrade to 8.04, I'd like the 8.04 cd to work properly. Any ideas on things I could try to get the cd to not hang?

Re: 8.04 livecd hangs, does not boot
If you're certain that the CD was burnt without any deffects, then press the F4 key when the CD is in with the menu. I believe that's the correct key that allows you to enter additional commands. I think it's "boot noapic" is the command to turn off acpi or you can just disable it in your BIOS.Challenges are what that keeps us from the borderline of boredom in life's journey. Did you try it then after pressing the F6 key? I think the command is "boot noapic" Try that and see.Challenges are what that keeps us from the borderline of boredom in life's journey. Linux user no. 419401 currently running Kubuntu 24.04

Re: 8.04 livecd hangs, does not boot
noapic didn't work, I'll try no acpi next, and also try pulling one of the sticks of RAM, so it's only got 2GB. In the meantime, I've attached photos of the error messages.
Edit-Tried no acpi, same error. Tried running the install CD with one 2GB stick of ram, same error. I can't find anywhere in the BIOS to turn off ACPI, tho I'm looking for an updated bios on the acer website

Re: 8.04 livecd hangs, does not boot
on my old AMD system, I had to have both no lapic and no apic. please note that is not a typo, it is apic and lapic, not acpi.Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop
Intel T9300 Core2Duo Processor @ 2.5Ghz
4 GB Ram | 1920 X 1200 Resolution
2 X 160 GB SATA HD Internal
Nvidia GeForce 8600M Graphics Adapter
Using Kubuntu 9.10
