    Upgrading to 8.04

Currently running 7.10 with Automatix add ons.
Some advice on what I can expect and need to do to have a successful upgrade using Synaptic.
Automatix is not going to be available for 8.04 so how will the Automatix items be upgraded?

    Thank you.

pretty much most mods will be removed and configured back to stock before the upgrade actually happens. I'd try the live cd first and see what you think.

      Thank you RJ Hythloday.
      Will try the live.
Will codecs and all software installed by Automatix then be removed since they are not originally installed in the distro?

        Re: Upgrading to 8.04

I'm thinking so, I did an update to add a repository the other day, and it started to update to hardy on a machine that I want to keep gutsy. before I shut it down it had removed several shortcuts in my tool bar, changed the desktop, removed my wine shortcuts in the start bar, removed ie4linux, etc. My understanding is that to do a distro update it must go back to default settings.

          Well that's a real bummer.
I guess that would be a good reason to do the LTS install. You have at least 3 years before you have to mess with all your system again.
          Thanks again.
