I also went back to FF-2 from FF-3 because of the many bugs and problems. Still black boxes instead of pictures. Also FF-3 slows down my system to a crawl whenever I access my Yahoo and gmail e-mail accounts.
FF-2 does not have these problems. And my system is again up to speed.
Just as with KDE-4 stay with FF-2 until FF-3 is fixed. Firefox 2 is right there in Adept and synaptic. Installs without a problem.
I am quite enjoying the new Konqueror though.
By far not as buggy as FF-3.
However, if we want to have a bugfree FF-3, we really need to use it and report any bugs we find. After reporting the main bugs, we can go back to FF-2 (or Konqueror, as I do) and just track the most important bugs, so when they are finished we can return to FF-3.
Right after finishing the previous message, I got a KDE crash on Konqueror , blehhhhh. Still, it works *mostly* as designed, and very goodlooking too. :P
After having downgraded firefox i've now lost all of my addons. Does anyone know if i can recover them or where i might find a list of what i had installed so that i can tediously download and install each and every one of them again
I've been using the Firefox 3 beta almost exclusively for a while now, since before I upgraded to 8.04. The only problem I've had is I don't have the Deepest Sender, FireFTP, or Gmail manager extensions to use. For the first two, I'd just been opening up Firefox 2 when I needed one of them, the third has been replaced by just leaving Gmail open in its own tab.
Downgrading to Firefox 2 breaks all my addons. Have no choice but to upgrade to Firefox 3 Beta 5. The theme that I was using no longer works so it now looks butt ugly. This is the list of addons that don't work anymore; Bookmark Duplicate Detector, Favicon Picker 2, Fire Encrypter, Firefly, FireFTP, MeasureIt, Paste Email, Screen grab!, Searchbar Autosizer, StyleSheet Chooser Plus, Throbber Button, Torrent Finder Toolbar, View Cookies, View Formatted Source, WellRounded. Needless to say this list is hopelessly incomplete its just the ones I won't be using anymore
Anyone have any ideas when they're supposed to release the final on Firefox 3? I know Deepest Sender isn't going to get updated until 3 is out of beta, the developer of that extension doesn't like having to constantly fuss with the extension to keep it working through the beta, so he just waits 'til the final release to update for it. I assume it's something similar for most of the other extensions that aren't 3 compatible.
At least NoScript is happy with the beta, otherwise I would be more distressed about the forced upgrade. I can make due without Deepest Sender, FireFTP and Gmail manager for now, but if NoScript wasn't available, I would be pretty frustrated. I have more extensions installed, but those our my four important ones.
FF3 is a bit buggy and crashy but my biggest gripes are that very few of my favourite themes and extensions work. Also my Bank, Natwest, currently has it as an unsupported browser. I would have used the prefbar extension but it won't work. I also find FF2 and 3 won't live side by side as FF3 disables all the extensions and themes and even changes the toolbar settings in FF2 - How annoying!
So I've got 2 options - use FF3 with limited extras and Konqueror set to spoof IE6 so I can do my online banking or uninstall FF3 and use FF2. This is the best option although I can't seem to configure the system to have the clicking of a URL (say from within Thunderbird) launch FF2 - without FF3 there, nothing happens. I have configured system settings to use FF2 but it doesn't change anything.
Also, on a related theme, when I right click on a file and select e-mail it keeps launching kmail whereas I want it to launch Thunderbird despite having already set it up in system settings to do so. Any ideas how I fix this please?
Couldn't agree more. Just don't like Firefox 3 beta, for the same reasons already stated. It works fine, except I miss all the extentions I enjoyed. I'll keep using it and hope the final release comes around quick.
Hi Liquidator. I'm also an unfortunate customer of Nat West and with the FF3 beta it's not compatible. I solved it by installing the user agent switcher add-on and then presenting FF3 as IE7 to Nat West. Works well.
