Can't install to Virtual PC 2007

I found this article on how to do the install:
    http://arcanecode.wordpress.com/2008...rtual-pc-2007/

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me. Someone added a comment on adding additional boot parameters. That didn't work either, although I'm not sure about the proper syntax.

I'm running VPC2007 under Vista. I don't know if that matters.

Has anyone here managed to install Kubuntu 8.04 to VPC2007 in Vista?

I tried to install Ubuntu in VPC a few years ago to no avail so I just gave up. I now use Kubuntu for just about everything. I think that you have two options here.
    1. Wubi
    2. VM Ware Server. We use this at work and I also use it here at home on some of my servers at the house. It does a great job, you can install the console app on any machine you want and still access the VM, and of course it's FREE . Hope this helps.

      Thanks for the reply!

I can get 7.10 to install but not 8.04.

Wubi seems to work fine but I'd rather have both running at the same time than dual-boot.

VMWare seems a bit "heavy" and complicated for my needs.

I've now tried VirtualBox and the installation was seamless. The only problem is I can't get the network connection to work.

With virtual box I have issues with the network working as well. Make sure that you install the add-on package for the virtual box. Also I had issues getting the virtual box to work with NAT so I ended up using the host option. Best bet download the users guide from their website and go to page 59 and start reading from there about the different networking options. Hope that helps.

Yep, got it working with a bridged connection!

Now I can start with the really dumb noobie questions. I'm more familiar with Gnome/RHEL so I'm struggling now with the GUI.

Excellent glad I could help you get this working. Don't worry I'm still a noob too.

Greetings. I also have Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 3.5 running seamlessly in VirtualBox actually runnung inside Kubuntu's "parent", Debian (Etch). Just play around with the KDE desktop in Kubuntu, after a while it will seem very intuitive. Everything is unde the "K" in the bottom left corner. Good luck and enjoy.
              Cheers.
