2.6.24-16 won't start

    2.6.24-16 won't start

    I've updated 7.10 to 8.04 using Adept, but now I cannot start Kubuntu using the 2.6.24-16 kernel.

    I can use the 2.16.22-14 kernel.

    Selecting 2.6.24-16 in Grub always ends with a Busybox prompt, if I use the recovery option I receive an error that a hard drive cannot be found /dev/.../uuid=lots of numbers.

    I have modified /boot/grub/menu.lst and added four modified entries to it. I have changed uuid for the hda2. 2.16.24-16 still fails to boot. I haven't tried the recovery version yet, but I will in a few minutes.

    Both version of 2.16.22-14 start.

    How can I boot 2.16.24-16 ?

    I am also having some trouble with my ATI 9550 graphics card. I currently cannot install any drivers for it. I'm hoping that when 2.16.24-16 starts to work I can use Envy to install the latest ATI drivers.

    I've just tried to start with my modified entry from Grub

    But, it failed with

   or missing modules, devices: cat /proc/modules ls /dev
ALERT! /dev/hda2 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

      1.- Start with 2.16.22-14 kernel.
      2.- Install live-initramfs # sudo apt-get install live-initramfs
      3.- Start with 2.6.24-16 kernel.

      This fixs your problem.

        This happend to me when I first upgraded to HH Beta. My problem was that I did not have the restricted modules installed for the -16 kernel I only had the module for the -14 installed. I had to uninstall the restricted modules for -14 and then install the ones for -16 and that fixed all of my problems, at least PC wise
        Kubuntu II on both Laptop and Desktop and some servers here at the office

          Many thanks

          1.- Start with 2.16.22-14 kernel.
          2.- Install live-initramfs # sudo apt-get install live-initramfs
          3.- Start with 2.6.24-16 kernel.

          This fixs your problem.
          Now 8.04 boots into 2.16.22-14 most of the time. About 20% of the time it halts at the BusyBox command prompt.

          When it does fully boot I have several problems with it.

          1) When the HD is used the system slows down, the mouse becomes jerky and slow.

          2) I play several games - Nexuiz, Urban Terror and Open Arena, I can only play a few seconds of Nexuiz before the system freezes. A one second sound repeats for ever and the monitor LED changes from green to amber.

          I've given up, I've now decided to do a fresh install.
