    Hardy installer doesn't find hard disk

    I can't install Hardy RC (neither alternate nor desktop editions), because the dialog box for chosing the partition layout is empty, as if there were no hard-disks. Going to command line, there is no /dev/sd*
    The same problem happens with Fedora 8 install DVD, but not in Fedora 7 (installed and everything running finely) and in Feisty live CD. I've checked CD md5sum, they're correct. The installation on my laptop (Acer 5050) worked normally.

    Specs:
    * MB: Asus A8V-MX
    * Athlon64 3000+
    * videocard: GeForce 6200
    * HD: SATA
    * RAM: Kingston 1Gb

    It looks like a module problem or something in the initialization of hardware. I think that a boot parameter could solve the problem, but I don't know exactly how.
    In Fedora 7, the ID of the SATA controler with the command lscpi is:
    00:0f.0 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8251 AHCI/SATA 4-Port Controller

    I'm having the exact same problem.

    I would really appreciate any help.

    Thanks!

      Same Here. :P

      I have been using Linux since 1999 and thins is the first time an Installer would not find a simple IDE drive to partition into.

      I have only one Western Digital IDE drive hooked up to the motherboard based Via VT8237 Chipset IDE that shows up in the BIOS setup. It is installed with SuSE 10.2 at present, which works fine with it as /dev/hda.

      I am willing to try some command line option but can find no reference to what to try. Guess I'll wait till SuSE releases KDE 4...

        I have a similar problem. Two drives - SATA and PATA, the SATA is detected, but the PATA is ignored. I want to install to the PATA.
