Disk partitioner hangs during Kubuntu 8.04 RC install

I get the following error dialog appear

"Device /dev/sdb has logical sector size of 2048. Not all parts of GNU Parted support this at the moment"

when scanning disks during the install process. The install then hangs.

I'm currently running Kubuntu 7.10 and have never had problems with disk partitioning on this machine before.
The machine has a single 250GB Maxtor disk.

From scratch, did you use GParted Live CD to make new partitions on the drive and format them (e.g., ext3)?
The other thing you can try to get past this would be to partition the drive, then start a live session with Kubuntu Live CD, open Konsole, and type
    sudo fdisk -lu
to confirm that GParted did its job.

I haven't heard of anything about 2048; hope it's not some new-fangled thing; I don't think GRUB can work with 2048-byte sectors (not sure). Maybe a bug in GParted?

EDIT (added): I'm pretty sure that if you run GParted Live CD from scratch to partition that drive, it'll get past this bump ok. If there are any partitions on it now, delete those first (if you can! -- i.e., if there's no useful data/programs there).

I am having the exact same problem. I've installed several versions of kubuntu on this unchanged machine over several years. The partitioner is giving the error with the hard drive I have windows 2000 on.

      Anyways, I can't install.
