Upgrade to Hardy : Unable to get exclusive lock

Hi,

I'm trying to perform the internet upgrade as prescribed in the upgrade page of Kubuntu https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades/Kubuntu

The first attempts failed because some Python packages were missing. Once these packages were installed it all goes according to plan; except that instead of getting step 6 done, nothing happens on the screen and the console shows the output I've put at the end of this message.

Does somebody knows how I can get around this problem ?

This usually means that another package management application (like
apt-get or aptitude) already running. Please close that application
first.

This usually clears the problem for me. Run it in Konsole.

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Alas, same result. When clicking on the "Finish" button, the adapt manager doesn't close. And probably therefor doesn't allow the update program to start.

I forgot to mention I'm using KDE 4.0.2. Maybe I should do the upgrade using KPackage in some way ?

An updater icon in the task-bar can cause this problem, the easiest thing to do is to logout and then log-back-in and make sure that all update software and package managers are closed.
