Re: Some things "cant communicate with KLaunch"
Oh the impatience of the young!
Those who immediately download/install KDE4 as a result of "it's posted NOW" have to deal with the fact that probably (read:likely) not all of the dependency packages have been uploaded to the repositories. It has been suggested, that one wait a day (at least) before attempting to upgrade any announced KDE4 update, so all the packages have a chance to be uploaded as well.
But, hey, you guys are the Chuck Yeagers of KDE4. Chuck didn't die in his test flights, but he got beat up more than once!

THANKS!
I'm about this close to enabling the Debian Sid repo for just long enough to get that package ..... but then I contemplate what a pain it is to reinstall the whole system when I bork it up on a botched experiment like that.
I think maybe I'll just get compiz going and Amarok loaded up and wait a day or two before trashing it again. 8)
Re: Some things "cant communicate with KLaunch"
Well, you basically have two courses of action:
1) Download RIGHT NOW! I've just GOT TO HAVE IT! Give it to Me - NOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and then cry over the fact that what you spent hours/days/weeks/months/years/past lives customizing now doesn't work)
2) Take a breath. Assume the Lotus postion. Contemplate the Universe. Scratch your nose (damn, have to start the meditation exercise all over again). Download and install tomorrow. Realize that the sandwich really is one of lifes greatest inventions. Smile as you read all the posts of everyone else who took course of action 1.

Well, it's a glass (or two/three) of wine at the moment, but given the opportunity, it'd be a shot or two of quality single-malt Scotch! I still have my unopened bottle of 21-year old Glenlivet on the shelf.

Re: Some things "cant communicate with KLaunch"
Awesome!!! I'm now writing to you from a KDE4 session in HH I believe you can install it with just the basic "sudo aptitude install kde4-core" command, but if not, I can post the steps I took (as best I can remember, anyway).
Asus G1S-X3:
Intel Core2 Duo T7500, Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, 4Gb PC2-5300, 320Gb Hitachi 7k320, Linux ( )
Re: Some things "cant communicate with KLaunch"
Yep, actually sudo apt-get install kde4-core was all it took here (finally). Very cool - thanks for watching that, Integr8e! It all seems to be working correctly.
Re: Some things "cant communicate with KLaunch"
It looks like just about everything KDE4 related is being replaced.
My drivers are installed and I see some effects in place (though I haven't turned on desktop effects) but I can't use the 3D Globe widget because it says that opengl shaders are not available. Kinda strange...
Re: Some things "cant communicate with KLaunch"
OK so it does something new now. If I try to boot into KDE3 now it stops in the same spot but instead of just staying at a black screen it goes back to KDM.

Well, that is what I did. I'll be KDE4 by late afternoon (have to go to work first! >)
