Printer Install Wizard and SpliX drivers with CUPS

I just installed the SpliX printer drivers and I see nothing in my KDE printer install wizard. I know what I'm supposed to to see because I just installed the same thing on the BSD print server. However on this Kubuntu install the driver is not showing up, although it does in the Kubuntu CUPS page on this computer. What am I missing?

Second part of the problem. I can't find any way to configure a remote printer. This worked just fine when the remote was a Linux box running CUPS, but changing to BSD and still using CUPS has completely broken the connection on my end. The port remains the same and only the IP has changed. Is there an easier way than using the wizard?

I think the real problem comes from this error message:
    Code:
An error occurred while retrieving the list of available backends:

Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server
     is correctly installed and running.
How do I get the CUPS server connected again? It's been running for years now.

    Hi!

I also use SpliX and had never any problems, but I never use Kde printer wizzard :-)

Adress: http://localhost:631 in any browser will give You direct access to CUPS. For local machie I only have to connect USB printer and CUPS recognizes it and uses it with any afforts. To allow remote access You have to fill few check boxes on main CUPS site.

After this another Linux machine automagicaly can see this printer (some times only when printer is pluged in sometimes even without plugging).
I should be quitely easy, without any knowledge about CUPS configuration.

Yes, it comes up now. I don't know why I tried the wizard in the first place, because I haven't used it before. I get so confused with all these different pictures that come up and don't know where I am any more. The server wouldn't let me configure it from here, but the fix for that is actually easy. Just add:
      Code:
      DefaultEncryption IfRequested
to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf Anyway, now I can configure remotely, but it still won't print. Doing a test print from http://localhost:631 fails. Do you use ipp or http for remote?

Like I said earlier, the strange thing is that it has worked fine for a few years, and all I did was change IP, making sure to make the appropriate adjustments in cupsd.conf.

        I thing it's http

        I checked
"allow to remote administration" to have remote acces to administration
        and
        "allow to printing from internet"

This "guest CUPS" configured itself automagically and I can see this remote printer in any print dialog.

That's the way it was here too. I shifted out the server machine and it worked just fine. When I went back to the original machine (Ubuntu 10.04) it doesn't work any more. Perhaps I made a mistake in the reconfiguration, but I can't find it. The local CUPS server says it is not running - although the interface appears to be. Oh well. I'll get used to it. I can always FTP my files to the other machine and print from there.
