sound stopped working after distro upgrade

Before upgrading from gusty to 8.04 my sound worked.

I upgraded because I could not get adobe flash player 10 to install on gutsy.

Now my sound does not work and I am unsure why.

The sound device I have is: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

Notebook is a Presario C751NR

I have googled this a lot and did not get much in return.

In this Forum, do an advanced search on 'sound' with 'snowhog' in the By user box. I have several posts, and I can't remember which one(s) may be pertinent, although at least one or two should be.
