I can see the gpu temp with Nvidia settings, but is there a way I can monitor it in say gkrellm or in the taskbar without having Nvidia settings running?

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 128MB thermal monitor
Well under builtins/sensors there's a "use nvclock for NVIDIA GPU temperatures" but ticking it doesn't change anything.
Thanks

I use this everyday... it's pretty nice. I think it needs nvidia-settings installed to work, but you don't need it ~visibly running.
It will use your current plasma theme... but i see we are in the hardy section... it is technically a superkaramba so maybe it will work for you?!?
Or here is a SK version:

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 128MB thermal monitor
Yah, I'd like to get gkrellm to show it like the CPU temps
Thanks

I have no "use nvclock ..." option.
I'm running lm-sensors and hddtemp and nVidia proprietary driver 185.18.10, but I don't think the driver version is relevant to this issue.
I had a GF 7900GS and I do not recall being able to read the GPU temp with gkrellm -- your 6100 may not have a sensor that lm-sensors can read -- does it show up in the output when you run sensors-detect?

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 128MB thermal monitor
Bummer.
Apparently, lm-sensors does not pick up the thermal sensor(s) on your GF 6100. I don't think it's fixable.
If you want to spend time proving whether or not this is a *buntu-unique limitation, you could try some other Linux distribution Live CDs. Boot the Live CD, in Live CD mode install lm-sensors, run (as root) sensors-detect, install the nVidia driver, install GKrellm, and see what you get. I'm guessing the limitation is the GF 6100, not the version or distribution of Linux, but I could be wrong about that. Here are some other distros that I've worked with, that should be fairly easy to set up and test:
sidux http://sidux.com/index.html
mepis https://www.mepis.org/
e-Live http://www.elivecd.org/ (use the "Development" version and allow a long time for the download)

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 128MB thermal monitor
Seems to me there are some BIOS switches for my 6150 that can change it's behavior for linux... I really do forget the context, but it might be worth a check...
I don't use my 6150, I use a 7600 instead... but if you think it would help, I could switch over and see what happens (sometime this weekend).
