    DG43NB

    Anybody here specifically running successfully
    8.04
    on this Intel board:
Intel BOXDG43NB LGA 775 Intel G43 ATX Intel Motherboard
    (and incidentally, with this CPU:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor)

(I'm mainly concerned about the DG43NB board.)

How about running 8.04 of the DG33 Intel boards?

      Good question --

My desktop system runs on an Intel D975XBX2 -- the specs are here:

      http://www.intel.com/products/deskto...2-overview.htm

I've been running Kubuntu on it since 6.06, with no issues other than some tricky installation maneuvers needed when you hook up both IDE and SATA hard drives.

I tried to take a look at the Intel specs for your model:

      http://www.intel.com/products/deskto...B-overview.htm

Wow, is that an ugly page in html!

So, I found the short version of the specs here:

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121349

Hmmm -- the only thing that I would worry about is that Realtek audio chip. I can't find Realtek listed on the alsa project site, the Intel listing there does not show an ICH10 Southbridge as having any support:

      http://www.alsa-project.org/main/ind...x:Vendor-Intel

I'd say be very careful, if audio performance is important to you. Maybe more extensive searching will turn up information that shows how to make it work.

        Re: DG43NB

I got into this wanting to build a new system, DG43 Intel (w/E8400 CPU), but don't have/want a legal Windows OS for it, and wanted it to be Kubuntu. I think 8.10 would fly on DG43 (with the latest kernel), and that's fine, but I also want the choice of 8.04 and/or other Linux OSs to run on it, too. So, that's the logic to the madness here. The Intel site seems to say that 8.10 will load and run, although not fully tested (I lost that link, but it's at Intel under Search: Linux). Thanks for your input. (Current machine is D915GAVL with 530J CPU, and everything works fine, just a little 915 graphics "action" is all.)

          Re: DG43NB

I recently built a system on an Asus P5Q Pro, which is a screamer with an E8500 on it, for only a little more $$ than that Intel board you're looking at. But, the gigabit ethernet chip is an Attansic which 8.10 does not support directly. I started down the path of compiling the driver, but ran into complications and when I found sidux had the right driver module already in the kernel, I just threw sidux on it. Subsequently I found a thread on Ubuntu forum that covers the subject of the Attansic driver in good detail, so if I were doing it again (which I may) I would just use that driver and Kubuntu. There were no other issues with either Win XP or Kubuntu, except the SATA mode had to be set to "IDE" for the Win XP installer to see the hard drive.

p.s. DDR2 1150 memory works just fine if you're not overclocking it.
