    Display settings locked at 800 X 600

    Hello,

    I am running 8.04 with KDE 3.5
I have changed something or either an update has locked my screen size resolution at 800x600 as the high setting I can go lower but I need to go higher all the icons are twice as large as they were originally. I am checking this in the monitor & display systems settings, slide bar is to the far right and will not go any further than the 800x600 setting. Any where else to check or change the settings??

    All help will be appreciated

    Hi james,

Is it possible that the XServer (Display) got screwed and you are running in fail-safe graphics mode (a very basic VGA graphics environment)? Do you know what graphics card you have?

Have you tried rebooting in recovery mode and choosing the option to repair the X-Server?

    Hope this helps

A couple more ideas: if you do have an NVidia or ATI card that needs a binary driver, many folks are having very good results using "Envy NG" (search for it in Synaptic or Adept). Good luck!

        hello lmilano,

Rebooting in recovery mode did the trick guess it was running in the fail-safe mode. Thank you so much for the response.
