problem with epson cx7450 all-in-one (solved)

First i would like to say DON'T EVER GET ANOTHER EPSON PRINTER'!!!
Ok, So I have this P.O.S. epson cx 7450 which was printing all right yesterday except the colors were off a bit. I found a thread for install sane-backends-extras to try to get the scanner working and now I can't print. the following error is posted at the cups printer management page localhost:631.

    Unable to start filter "rastertogutenprint.5.0

    EDIT:
Now trying install of pipslite. ./configure seemed to go ok but make gives me this:
    wrapper.c: In function ‘main’:
wrapper.c:84: error: ‘cups_raster_t’ undeclared (first use in this function)
wrapper.c:84: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
wrapper.c:84: error: for each function it appears in.)
wrapper.c:84: error: ‘ras’ undeclared (first use in this function)
wrapper.c:85: error: ‘cups_page_header_t’ undeclared (first use in this function)
wrapper.c:85: error: expected ‘;’ before ‘header’
wrapper.c:144: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘cupsRasterOpen’
wrapper.c:144: error: ‘CUPS_RASTER_READ’ undeclared (first use in this function)
wrapper.c:152: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘cupsRasterReadHeader’
wrapper.c:152: error: ‘header’ undeclared (first use in this function)
wrapper.c:185: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘cupsRasterReadPixels’
wrapper.c:203: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘cupsRasterClose’
    make[2]: *** [wrapper.o] Error 1
    make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/charlie/tarballs/pipslite-1.2.0/src'
    make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/charlie/tarballs/pipslite-1.2.0'
    make: *** [all] Error 2

    EDIT:
removed everything that related to printing i.e. cups, foomatic, and pipslite, sane etc.etc. Removed all printers.
Reinstalled cups and a bunch of sane stuff. Then when I turned the printer on a little icon appeared on the panel with a message saying "new printer found, configuring new printer". I have never seen that before! I always had to configure the printer through system-settings or kcontrol or cups web management. The printer works now, the scanner does not and the colors are still a bit out of whack, but it prints.

I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.
Working...
