B43 wireless driver

On kernel 2.6.24-19 under KDE4's Hardware drivers manager there is a driver called Brodcom B43 wireless driver. This driver could be better, but works well enough.

On the new Kernel 2.6.24-21 I only have Broadcom STA wireless driver. This driver does not work on my machine.

After some investigation I beleive the STA driver is a replacement for the B43 and included in the new Kernel.

This KDE4 Hardware manager has no other functions other than enable/disable the driver. No install drivers, test drivers or anything else.

Anyone know how I can get KDE to load the old driver? Is there a better driver manager out there?

Without the old B43 driver I can't use my wireless.

Any help would be apreciated.

which b43xx driver do you use? is it the b4328 by chance? That is what I had on my dell 1720...I had to enter a few terminal commands that I found on the ubuntu forums. I am not at home right now, and I can't find it...but when I get home, I will post back here...I did find http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=768197, and maybe it will help...

about 2/3 of the way down, there is info on broadcom drivers...this is basically what I did.

Thanks for the post, muzicman0.

I am going to install 8.10 on a fresh install and see what happens first. If that fails I will try your method, it looks like it will work. Failing that, I could always try the Windows driver. I know how to install them under Linux.
