    SOLVED - Old hard drive in new computer, Treo stopped synchronizing

    I've just built a new workstation with my existing hard drive (and therefore my existing installation of Kubuntu 8.04), and I can't sync anymore. KPilot reports the following two errors over and over:

    Code:
    00:51:06 Trying to open device /dev/pilot...
    00:51:11 Could not open device: /dev/pilot (will retry)
    And here's a portion of the result of udevinfo -a -p /sys/class/tty/ttyUSB1:

    Code:
    looking at parent device '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/usb1/1-1':
    KERNELS=="1-1"
    SUBSYSTEMS=="usb"

    I know my USB ports work because I've mounted a variety of USB devices: an external hard drive, a flash drive and a memory card reader. All devices mount correctly.

    Any suggestions?

    I had this problem at one time, try sudo modprobe visor which worked for me, after i auto-started it.

    Edit:
    before plugging it in, that is.

      I tried that, but no luck. Besides, it makes no sense that it should suddenly quit working just by installing the hard drive in a different system. That module was already in use.

      It's possible I had the Treo connected, so I'll give it another crack when I get home.

        I'm afraid I don't know what KPilot is, but my guess is that your devices have changed names. You might just have to configure KPilot anew to reflect the changes in the hardware setup.

          That's just it...there are no hardware changes, at least as far as my Treo and USB are concerned. The name on the handheld matches the name in KPilot, just as it always has.

          I'm stumped.

            Bump...I still don't have a solution.

              Seems like your problem has to do with /dev/pilot

              I'd google that and perhaps study the kpilotrc file...

                Re: SOLVED - Old hard drive in new computer, Treo stopped synchronizing

                You were pretty close. I remembered suddenly that I'd also turned on a conduit - KNotes/Memos. So just turned it off, and the damned thing started synchronizing. So the lesson here is that that with Kubuntu 8.04 running KDE 3.5.10 and the latest version of KPilot, don't run that fargin' conduit!

                I sure hope it's fixed in KDE 4.1.2
