I have a problem after testing a 2nd video card. I didn't think I'd have an issue because it's the same Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT GPU except it's a different make and will have different specs. But, I didn't think it would effect anything since I thought the drivers would be the same.
Nope. I'm not sure how to fix things since I am following the steps of the message that pops up but it doesn't fix the problem.
When I go to NVIDIA X Server Settings, I get:
1) Nvidia X Server Settings screen with nothing in there but a 'nvidia-settings Configuration' heading but nothing but a big white space underneath.
2) another screen pops up but is hidden by any windows that are open. It reads:
'You do not appear to be using teh NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run 'nvidia xconfig' as root), and restart the X server.
[OK]'
So, I do this and it seems to re-write xorg.conf but nothing changes with the Nvidia X Server panel. I still can't check settings/readings.
I'm going to try rebooting to see if there's any change. I'm betting there isn't and if not, I will edit/repost the message I receive after running the nvidia xconfig utility.
